This morning we were a part a Buddhist morning prayer. The monks sat at the shrine and chanted. It was very peaceful and a nice way to start the day. We also got to give incense as an offering.
After breakfast we explored Kayosan and it’s many temples. The grounds were so gorgeous and green. It was lovely to wonder around in the fresh mountain air. The big red Temple in the photos below was Konpon Daito. It houses five large gold Buddhas that’s were magnificent.
Once we finally got back to Kyoto we went to the Fushimi-Inari Shrine. I didn’t realize what was in store for us, it was a bit of a hike to get through all of the 10,000 gates but we finally reached the top. Every gate is different and the scenery is gorgeous!
For breakfast we had a traditional Buddhist meal. It consisted of rice, miso soup, pickles and although it didn’t look like it, a delicious piece of tofu mixed with veggies. It was actually very sweet and tasty.
I haven’t really had any coffee with milk this whole trip so I thought I would give one of the local places ago. It was served in bowl which was fun.
For dinner we somehow found a small bar that served a lot of different food. We had corn tempura, vegetable hot pot and summer rolls. To be honest it was good to have things with a lot of different flavours.
The Kyoto Garden Hotel is where we will be staying for the next few nights, it seems to be in a good location and it’s clean.
